Letter Writing for the 32 Acre Former School Site on Bowie Mill Road

What to say

Letters can be short. Three paragraphs of one to two sentences each work well.

1. Describe who you are

Examples to choose from:

  • How long you have lived in Olney

  • Why you moved to Olney

  • What is important to you (adequate school space, greenspace, recreation etc)

2.Describe why you are writing and what you are concerned about

Examples to choose from:

  • Need to retain school sites to accommodate the high rate of growth anticipated for County

  • Need for more open space and recreational facilities including off road trails and bikeways

  • Need for Civic Center complex in Town Center

  • Need for community input to decision about what is the highest and best use for this land

  • Need to fix conflicting processes; let the master plan determine land use first, then dispose of land for development consistent with land use and zoning in the master plan

3. Describe what you want to happen

Examples to choose from:

  • Postpone any action to sell or otherwise dispose of the 32 acre site on Bowie Mill Rd until the Olney Master Plan update is completed.

  • Recommend that the County return the property to the Montgomery County Public Schools to be held a future school site
