The Request for Proposals on the Bowie Mill Road property is released.

The 32 acre county owned land is located on the south side of Bowie Mill Road between Darnell Drive and Ivy Lane.  The Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) issued a request for proposals (RFP) to develop this parcel.  Click here to see it.  A decision is expected 90 to 120 days after the January 27, 2006 deadline for responses.  The RFP specifies 20% MPDUs, 40% Workforce Housing, and 40% Market rate units.  The selection team will look favorably on proposals that place the affordable housing on a separate site from the Bowie Mill site.

The Reserve at Fair Hill site plan is approved.

The Reserve at Fair Hill will be built by Pulte on the property once referred to as the Freeman property.  It is located along Wickham Road northwest of Norbeck Grove and extends to Route 108 across from OBGC fields.  The site plan was approved by the Planning Board on July 14, 2005 with several minor changes.  Click here to see the site plan.  There will be 133 single-family dwelling units including 20 MPDUs.  The MPDUs will be duplexes.  Click here to see a picture of the proposed duplex .

Doug Duncan signs Executive Order to Transfer the 32 Acre Property on Bowie Mill Road to DHCA.

Doug Duncan signed an Executive Order transferring four County owned properties (including the 32 acre property on Bowie Mill Road) to the Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) for use or sale for affordable housing.  Requests for proposals (RFPs) will be issued this summer (Click here to read the press release).  The Council approved R200/PD3 zoning for the 32 acre site.  This means the zoning is R200 (max 78 units) with an option that the developer of the land may (or may not) request a rezoning to PD3 (max 117 units).  Many different groups are interested in developing this property.  Click here to see the environmental constraints and development plans that are being discussed for this property.

Full Council Votes on Olney Master Plan.

The full council had final discussions and voted on the Olney Master Plan on March 15, 2005.  Click here to see the Council's discussion and vote (choose the 9:45 am time slot - first hour is discussion of the 32 acre property). The master plan sets the zoning for different properties in Olney.  Click here to see a brief summary (including the specific language on the 32 acre property).  The sectional map amendment (which actually changes the zoning on the parcels rezoned) will be voted by the Council on July 26, 2005.
